Veneers
Veneers are commonly known as laminates. A veneer is a porcelain facing that is bonded to the front of a tooth. It can lengthen and change the shape or the color of your tooth. Laminates have been around since the mid 1980's and were first developed at NYU Dental School by Dr. John Calamia.
There have been some changes over the years, but the basic concept of veneers has remained the same. The benefit of veneers over crowns is the preservation of tooth structure. Depending on the situation, veneers require much less tooth preparation than crowns. In some cases veneers can be placed directly on the teeth with no drilling whatsoever.
